  2022 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Xavier Gipson, Sr., WR, Stephen F. Austin,...Gipson, a senior wide receiver, was the first repeat winner of the offensive player of the year award in the WAC since Boise State's Kellen Moore in 2009-10. Gipson became just the eighth player in league history to win top offensive player honors back-to-back, joining BYU's Virgil Carter (1965-66), Jim McMahon (1980-81), Steve Young (1982-83) and Ty Detmer (1990-91), TCU's LaDainian Tomlinson (1999-00), Hawai'i's Colt Brennan (2006-07) and Moore. Gipson led the WAC with 1,486 all-purpose yards, which included a conference-high 276 punt return yards and added 1,163 receiving yards to rank second in the league.   NOV 21 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trae Self, R-Sr., QB, Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 21),...Self, a redshirt senior quarterback, went out in style in his final collegiate game, leading SFA to a 24-21 victory at ACU on Nov. 19. Self completed 26-of-37 for 397 yards and two passing touchdowns, adding a 12-yard rushing touchdown with 2:43 to play to give the Lumberjacks their first lead of the day and clinch the 2022 WAC Football Championship. - WAC Football

  Trae Self scrambled 12 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left to give Stephen F. Austin a 24-21 win over Abilene Christian Saturday and the Lumberjacks claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship. The Lumberjacks earned the outright conference title for the first time since 2010. Self finished 26 of 37 passing for 397 yards and two touchdowns for SFA (6-5, 3-2). The four-year starter surpassed 10,000 career passing yards in the game. Xavier Gipson had 11 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown. Gipson finished the regular season as the leading receiver in the WAC and entered the game ranked eighth in the FCS in receiving yards per game.   OCT 31 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Xavier Gipson, Sr., WR/PR, Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 31),...Gipson, a senior wide receiver and punt returner, enjoyed another impact game for SFA in a hard-luck defeat at the hands of Utah Tech on Oct. 29. Gipson registered 270 all-purpose yards on 11 total touches, which included 119 yards on three punt returns. Gipson scored his second punt return touchdown of the season after bringing a Utah Tech punt back 85 yards for a score in the fourth quarter. - WAC Football

  OCT 24 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Xavier Gipson, Sr., WR, Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 24),...Gipson, a senior wide receiver, turned in a signature performance for SFA in a 41-38 win on the road at Southern Utah on Oct. 22. Gipson registered 10 catches for a career-high 256 yards and two touchdowns, scoring from 24 yards and 54 yards in the second quarter.   Trae Self threw for three touchdowns and ran for the game-winning score with 6:14 left in regulation to lift Stephen F. Austin past Southern Utah 41-38 on Saturday. Self threw three straight touchdown passes, two to Xavier Gipson from 24- and 54-yards out, in the third quarter to take a 29-15 lead. Isaiah Wooden ran for a touchdown and caught a 76-yard strike from Justin Miller to help the Thunderbirds take a 32-28 lead in the third quarter. Braedon Wissler scored from 27-yards out to give Southern Utah a 38-34 lead with under eight minutes to play. Self finished with 298 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for Stephen F.   OCT 17 WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Miles Reed, Sr., RB, Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 17),...Reed, a senior running back, gained a career-high 137 yards on just 19 carries for a 7.2 yards per carry in a 41-24 win for SFA over Tarleton on Oct. 15. Reed added two catches for 19 yards in the win for the Lumberjacks. Along with the career high in rushing yards, Reed was also the first SFA ballcarrier to eclipse the 100-yard rushing plateau thus far this season. - WAC Football

  OCT 10 WAC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chris Campos, So., K, Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 10),...Campos, a sophomore kicker, continued a solid season for SFA during the thrilling three-point win at home against Abilene Christian. Campos made all five of his PAT attempts and both of his field goals, connecting from 22 yards in the second quarter before nailing a 51-yard attempt as time expired for the walk-off win.   Trae Self threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to spark Stephen F. Austin to a 41-24 win over Tarleton in a Western Athletic Conference contest Saturday. Xavier Gipson returned a Tarleton punt 84 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and caught a 21-yard pass from Self with :35 left in the first half to give the Lumberjacks a 14-10 lead at intermission. After the Texans tied the game at 17 on a 33-yard run by Derrel Kelley III Stephen F. Austin (4-3, 1-1) scored 24 straight points to put the game away.

Self finished 16 of 25 for 253 yards passing and added scoring runs of 4 and 3 yards in the fourth quarter. Miles Reed led the Lumberjacks on the ground with 137 yards on 19 carries. Moe Wedman caught six passes for 108 yards and Gipson caught four for 93. Triumphant Olatunji picked off a pair of Tarleton passes. Beau Allen was 18 of 31 for 222 yards and two touchdowns with a pair of interceptions for Tarleton (4-2, 1-1), Jaden Smith had six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. - Stephen F.   Chris Campos kicked a 51-yard field goal on the final play of the game and Stephen F. Austin outlasted Abilene Christian 41-38 on Saturday night. Campos' winning kick came after Abilene Christian's Blair Zepeda was short on a 54-yard field-goal attempt with 4 seconds remaining. Xavier Gipson returned the attempt 41 yards and a personal foul on the Wildcats added 15 yards and extended the game one play - setting up Campos' game-winner. Stephen F. Austin (3-3, 1-1 Western Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter before Jermiah Dobbins' 46-yard touchdown run and two scoring passes from Maverick McIvor pulled Abilene Christian (4-2, 1-1) within 24-21 at halftime.

Freshman Jerrell Wimbley's 30-yard touchdown run pushed the Lumberjacks' lead to 31-21, but Dobbins scored on a 1-yard plunge and Zepeda added a field goal to knot the score at 31 after three quarters. Trae Self ran for a 4-yard touchdown to put SFA up 38-31 early in the fourth quarter, but Dobbins tied the game for a final time on a 3-yard touchdown run with 6:28 left to play. Self completed 21 of 33 passes for 243 yards with an interception. Self had a 5-yard scoring toss to Moe Wedman in the first quarter for the Lumberjacks. Wimbley carried 12 times for 99 yards and two scores. Gipson caught nine passes for 144 yards. McIvor completed 24 of 45 passes for 283 yards with one interception for Abilene Christian.   Trae Self threw four touchdown passes and four Stephen F. Austin quarterbacks combined to throw for eight scores as the Lumberjacks routed NAIA-Member Warner, shutting out the Royals 98-0 on Saturday night. Warner managed just 141 yards of offense, including 114 through the air, and was forced to punt eight times. Four quarterbacks were a combined 29-of-35 passing for 478 yards for Stephen F. Austin.   Trae Self threw three touchdown passes, including an 11-yard scoring strike to Moe Wedman with 2:22 remaining, to push Stephen F. Austin past Alcorn State 31-27 in a season opener on Saturday night. Self was 18-of-30 passing for 226 yards. Jerrell Wimbley added 91 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Lumberjacks. Jarveon Howard had 195 yards rushing on 21 carries for Alcorn State in its season opener. His 73-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter stretched the Braves' lead to 24-10 at halftime.

Jerrell Wimbley's 20-yard touchdown run for the Lumberjacks tied the game 24-24 with 3:48 left in the third. Following Self's game-winning TD pass, Alcorn State's drive stalled at its 43 when Myles Heard picked off an Aaron Allen pass. Alcorn State forced a three-and-out, but Max Quick's 47-yard punt pinned the Braves at their 5 with 39 seconds remaining and no timeouts.
